A Different Kind of Urban Life

In his sermon “A Different Kind of Urban Life” Jon Osmond posed the question of  how are we seeking shalom within our city? We have such beautiful evidence within our communities of how God is already working. Where can we identify more areas to partner in this work? What are our opportunities offered to us in our communities? Where can we find shalom through urban economics, through our spirituality, through living in a city like Toronto?

If you missed this Sunday, take a listen to our Mixcloud post and be challenged in the way we can seek shalom in our everyday interactions in our cities.

“This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace (shalom) and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it has peace (shalom), you too will have peace (shalom).

– Jeremiah 29:4-7

In light of our recently refreshed Vision at FreeChurch, we’ve decided to spend the month delving into the finer points on where we feel called as a community going forward.
One of the first areas we looked at this past Sunday was Mentorship and how we hope to see this occurring in a diverse, multi-generational community.

For those who missed out on being with us in person, please be sure to catch up on all FreeChurch’s teachings on Mixcloud.

The Spirit Poured Out On All Generations

What a wonderful way to celebrate Pentecost Sunday! It was such a pleasure to share our two services with Christie Gardens and Kensington Gardens respectively. Jon spoke on Acts 2: 16-18 and about the challenges and beauty within our diversity.

“… this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.” Acts 2:16-18

If you’re joining us at FreeChurch this Sunday, please be aware that we will be at two different locations. We will be celebrating Pentecost at Christie Gardens in the morning (10:30am) and Kensington Gardens in the afternoon (3:30pm).

We value connecting with different congregations and our neighbours within the city. So please join us at these communities to worship together!
