Living Document Process

One Love: Unity in Christ

History of Our Process Towards LGBTQ+ Inclusion

January 2018
We began this conversation as a church community with a sermon series entitled "One Love" where we emphasized our desire to be united in Christ. You can listen to the full "One Love” series here.

January 31, 2018
We gathered for an All Church Conversation where the elders presented two viewpoints that exist in our community: an affirming view and a historical view of same sex marriage. If you would like to read both viewpoints, please read this document to gain a better understanding of each.

July - Dec 2018
The Synod was formed with a diverse group of FreeChurch members, committed to discerning next steps for our community. The elders and the Synod met four times between July - December 2018, and completed an exhaustive survey. After listening to, praying, and discerning with the Synod, the Living Document was compiled by the Elders team.

April 30, 2019
The FreeChurch community (members and regular attendees) gathered to attend a conversation around LGBTQ+ inclusion and remaining a united community while holding differing values/views around same sex marriage. Elders presented the Living Document during this conversation. The Living Document is what we arrived at in April of 2019.

Our leadership continues to engage in ongoing dialogue and learning about LGBTQ+ identities, orientations, and relationship structures. The Living Document will grow and change as we grow and change as a community.
